I was considering getting a pellet gun for my backyard nuisance critters but a friend of mine turned me on to a .22 load from CCI called the CB. They have much less powder and basically sound like a pellet gun when fired. At about 40 yards, they have about a 3/4 inch drop and since they don't have a lot of powder they ended up jamming in my old 10/22 when ejecting. Due to these limitations, I ended up purchasing an inexpensive bolt action Savage Mark II.22 LR rifle($125). I sighted the scope for these rounds and the bolt action eliminated the ejection issue.
With this new gun, I knocked off about 60 rounds one afternoon. Later, my neighbor came over and asked me what I was building. He thought I was using my finishing nailer, I told him I was just trying out my new "pellet gun". lol
If you want to try them out, you won't find them at Dunham's, Meijer, Walmart etc.. I have purchased them from Shoreline Shooters and Gary's. They are about $7 per 100.
If you want to plink in your backyard without pissing off your neighbors, give them a try.
I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Teddy Kennedy. |

They work on squirrels and rabbits, so I'm sure they would. I know of course that you're only asking on a theoretical basis. :>)
