The Muskegon Pistol & Rifle club has an active Junior shooting
program for youth between the ages of 12 and 20. A safety and shooting
fundamental course is taught to the youth prior to participating. The
course of fire follows the NRA Marksmanship Qualification program for
4-position shooting. NRA medals and certificates are earned by the
Junior shooters by completing the course as described by the NRA.
Junior shooting is scheduled each Thursday (except holidays) with the
first round down range at 7:00pm at the indoor range. Shooting is
performed for one hour with clean-up and scoring afterwards. All
equipment is provided by the club or the Junior can use their own
equipment. All shooting is accomplished with .22 caliber target
rifles. Sight alignment, trigger control, breathing techniques, the
different positions, scoring, and many other aspects of shooting are
taught to the Juniors.
The cost is $5.00 for Junior membership with MPRC and $2.00 each time
thereafter. Parents are allowed to observe and encourage the youth.
